Before Black Mask

$24.95

In Before Black Mask, we have attempted to present the best American mystery stories we could find that were published between January, 1901 and March, 1920 (the month before Black Mask Magazine started). The 25 stories included herein were written by some of the best crime fiction and mystery writers of their time, and perhaps of our as well. Many are well-known: stories by Bret Harte, Holman F. Day, O. Henry, Peter B. Kyne, Mary Roberts Rinehart, to name but a few. Many of these stories appeared in other publications, which of course were present prior to the origins of The Black Mask: The Saturday Evening Post, Leslie’s Monthly, Metropolitan Magazine, Munsey’s Magazine, The American Magazine, Boston American, Every Week Magazine, Harper’s Magazine, Collier’s, Pictorial Review and McClure’s Magazine; while others were first published in other collections, such as: November Joe: Detective of the Woods, The Golden Slipper, and Other Problems for Violet Strange, and Average Jones. To get a feel for all 25 of the enclosed stories, just turn to the Table of Contents, and don’t put the book down until you have read through to the last page! 6 x 9, softcover, 516 pages. ISBN: 9781935573753.
