Sketches of the History of the Town of Camden

$13.95

A reprint of the 1859 edition of the same title, Sketches of the History of the Town of Camden, Maine brings to the reader some of the history pertaining to this coastal area of Penobscot Bay, Maine. The author engages the reader by starting out with the coastal voyagers of this newly discovered area of the world. Descriptions of the land, native peoples, and the foundations of a new country are included. Grants of land, and how they were parceled out; descriptions of the colonials; surveys of Camden; original settlers; naming conventions and then the Revolution are just a few of the rudimentary sketches provided in this work. Also included is a Business Register for the communities of Camden, West-Camden, Rockville, Rockport and Simonton’s Corner, as existed in 1859. As the original text did not contain an index, a newly created name index has been included in this printing. This book not only brings to the reader the history of this region of Maine, but realizing that it was written before the Civil War occurred brings an historical view to the reader of the life in Camden before the advent of modern conveniences. 6x9, soft cover, 252 total pages, 2 illustrated, indexed. ISBN: 9781935573524.
