History of Aroostook County

$21.95

A reprint of the 1922 edition of the same title, History of Aroostook, was written in 1890 by Hon. Edward Wiggin, but was not published until after his death. This was done so by George H. Collins, who, in addition to Mr. Wiggin’s work, added a Part 2 to this book, comprising historical information regarding the various industries of Aroostook County. Part 1 of this work, by Mr. Wiggin, comprises a small description of each of the towns within the borders of Aroostook. They are listed within this work in no particular order (as in the original publication), however the Table of Contents lists the town in alphabetical order, to allow an easy search. Within each town biography is a description of its history, with original or founding settlers, etc. As the readers enjoys this section of the book, it is to be remembered that its contents were written in 1890. Part 2, compiled and edited by Mr. Collins, is a running historical look at the history of Aroostook’s politics, industry, and fortitude of its pioneer citizenry, and includes such chapters as the pioneer history, political movements, railroad industry, farming, the Burleigh Plan, starch making, banking, newspapers, the natural scenic attractions, etc., of this grand County. This section of the book was written in 1922. Sometimes it is easy to forget just how large Aroostook County is, but in land area, it is larger than the states of Rhode Island and Delaware, combined. With that great size come a great history, one that all bookshelves should not do without. While the original printing of this great work contained no index, this printing has an every-name index included. 6x9, softcover, 472 total pages, illustrated, indexed. ISBN: 9781935573500.
